U CAN Cleanup Aliso at the WCS 2010

Victoria Skimboards has started a petition to "Save the WCS" and ask that you all read it, sign it, and add some constructive/positive comments to it. We will take this petition, a local hard copy that is signed by retailers, and any other support to the County Officials in hopes of keeping the WCS during the end of June or month of July. To read and sign the petition, click here.

    Thank you for your support!

    7/17/09 - Laguna Independent article

Second, the future of the event. During the set up of the second day of the contest, the county park ranger came up and warned us that next year the contest might not take place unless we were willing to move the event up to a pre summer date.   Their reasoning was “chaos in the parking lot” with more cars circulating than there were cars already in the lot and the end result being “road rage.”  The “road rage” would create a “bad situation” for everyone involved.

We discussed informing the public about the WCS in the weeks prior to the event so that they could make plans to visit other beaches besides Aliso during the WCS.  One option was putting up signage at the park entrance on both sides of the highway so as to inform the public of the event at the beach for the weekend.  That idea was frowned upon.  The second option was publishing warnings in the local papers which were well received.

According to the park rangers, there are no NSSA surfing contests allowed on any public county beaches during the summer months (June through September).   The Victoria WCS may be headed the same way which would be a shame and injustice to our international visitors,  school age participants, and others that may no longer be able to participate in the event due to its timing.

We feel it will be necessary to launch a letter writing/newspaper editorial writing campaign to press the Orange County Permits employees to let us continue the event in late June or early July.  This timing works best as it takes advantage of the lingering NW wind swell that comes earlier in the summer as opposed to waiting until later in the summer when the only swells that are likely are infrequent south swells.

We will start a petition as soon as possible so please check the Victoria Skimboards website frequently.  All parents and participants who have skills in writing or organizing a major push to have skimboarding recognized by Laguna and the County of Orange are encouraged to help.   Please write your local government agency, call your contacts in the local and county governments and help us make our case.

Skimboarding is our local natural resource, much as skiers are the lifeblood of June Mountain.   We bring tourism, hotel occupancy, and restaurant use to the city of Laguna Beach.   We are a town full of skimboard enthusiasts so let’s pull together to make sure the WCS happens in 2010.

Thirty three (33) years of continuous contests is one heck of a long run for any event.  Please don’t let the county overreact to a few of the general public who are inconvenienced for one weekend of the year.  Laguna Beach is the worldwide Mecca for this sport.  This is where it has been revolutionized and grown into a wonderful new sport.  It should be protected from the vagaries of our government trying to please a very small group of people who don’t want anyone else using Aliso.  We are all beach goers and we all deserve an equal access to the beach.   The vast majority of the parking lot is there for the contest but there is plenty of room for the rest of the beach goers to use the water.

It would be a shame to lose the “family” event so please pull together and help stop the negative momentum that could pull the Victoria Skimboards WCS under the water never to return.

7/4/08 The Chase Is On At Upcoming Victoria World Championships of Skimboarding

Laguna Beach, California (Thursday, July 03, 2008) – With the Victoria World Championships of Skimboarding (WCS) fast approaching, the attention of the UST’s top pros is focused on stopping two men – Current World No. 1 Bill Bryan (USA) and World No. 2 Morgan Just (USA).
Both Victoria Team Riders have dominated the 2008 UST season, clinching all three events held thus far. The first two contests going to Bryan with the most recent event going to Just.
Bryan heads into the Victoria World Championships an event favorite having won the event 14 times – in 1991, 1993, 1994, 1995, 1997, 1998, 1999, 2000, 2001, 2003, 2004, 2005, 2006 and 2007. He finished runner-up to George Bryan and Mike Stanaland in 1996 and 2002 respectively. Without a doubt he has his sights set on a 15th World title.
The Victoria World Championships of Skimboaridng is the fifth event of 8 on the UST World Tour. The current leg of the tour is taking place on the East Coast of the United States, with the fourth stop scheduled for July  12th and 13th in North Carolina. The UST riders will have close to two weeks to prepare for the Victoria WCS as the tour shifts to the West Coast on the waters of Laguna Beach.
The Victoria WCS will be streamed LIVE on www.victoriaskimboards.com when competition runs. If you can’t make it to the beach and watch the action live, catch the event online as it happens.
The weekend’s festivities will conclude on Sunday July 27th with an after party, which includes the awards ceremony, live music and a video premier which will be held @ Seven Degrees in Laguna Beach. Doors open at 7pm with tons of free gear to be given away. Check back in the coming weeks leading up to the weekend for more info…

    4/30/08 PR MACHINE

Victoria Skimboards is proud of the hard work that they put into each product that bears the Victoria Skimboards name.  But what does it matter to skimboarding if the word does not make it to the streets and into the hands of people that do not know anything about skimboarding?  Not a whole lot.  Well, we are changing this by blasting out our news in an efficient manner and spreading the “gospel” of skimboarding.  “Focused efforts are going to be the most effective means of getting skimboarding to the masses and accepted even revered/looked up to like surfing” stated Trigg Garner, General Manager for Victoria Skimboards.  We all want the best for skimboarding and Victoria Skimboards is doing its part to make it happen.  Are you?

    4/29/08 NEW ART

Gone are the days of simplistic lines on your Skimboard.  Enter the next generation of art with Victoria Skimboards leading the charge.  “We recently released new artwork to our retailers and the response has been fantastic” stated Nick Aleandro, East Coast Sales Manager for Victoria Skimboards.  With excitement all around the product, look for art boards to be popping up on every beach across the United States and abroad.
