U CAN Cleanup Aliso at the WCS 2010
Since the mid-1990s, Aliso Beach has been closed on multiple occasions due to the contaminated urban runoff coming from Aliso Creek. Once the warning signs highlighting the effects of entering the water are posted, avid skimboarders feel most at lost without their playground. The question is: “What CAN U do about the situation?” The solution is simple. U CAN Cleanup Aliso! U CAN is Sol Shred Skim's latest environmental project which stands for yoU Contribute Awareness Necessary. This year will be the first time in history that the World Championship of Skimboarding, hosted by Victoria Skimboards, will hold a beach cleanup following both days of competition on June 19th & 20th. As an eco-conscious organization, Sol Shred Skim's initial goal is to lead by example and inspire all along the journey. U CAN Cleanup Aliso will be a casual event filled with positive vibes and raffle prizes from underground sponsors like . . . Saba Anna, Bitches On Boards (BOB), Extreme Outdoor Supply (EOS), MOSTIC, Freedom Riding, and Sol Shred Skim. Trash bags and rubber gloves will be available so please stick around after all the heats are over and give back the love and respect Aliso deserves.

Ojo Art Series is here!
Victoria Skimboards is proud to announce the Tex Haines inspired “Ojo” series of custom art Skimboards for 2010. Gaining inspiration for the line from the company’s original artistic roots, “Ojo” is Spanish for “Eye” and every board in the series will have a spot on the bottom of the board signifying the “eye of the wave.”
“The boards will be an evolving art project. Each board will be slightly different in color dispersion for the deck and various art media combinations (airbrush, brush, stamp, pen, pencil) depending on what moves the artist that day” says owner Tex Haines. “A return if you will, to the days of old when Skimboards were all different and you could only generally request any particular design and had to accept whatever the artist created.”
Each board will be highlighted in a Featured Board photo on the Victoria Skimboards website listing the model and size. When you see what you like, call ASAP to get that board. Standard art charges will apply to each board. The eyes of the wave will be on you.

7/27/09 - Brooks St. Surf Contest complete
The weekend of July 25th through 26th in Laguna Beach was filled with consistently large surf. On Friday, Aliso Beach was closed to on-goers due to the high surf advisory and the Red Flag could be seen all across Laguna Beach throughout the weekend. Extra thanks and appreciation go out to the Lifeguards of Laguna Beach for staying on top of our beaches and doing their very best to keep everyone safe!
Not only did this weekend bring the heavy surf, it brought about the annual Brooks Street Surf Classic which has not run since September of 2005. Marked by around 15 foot surf (2nd reef at Brooks Street was breaking) which many say was double overhead, surfer’s packed the water for the grand-daddy of surf contests in Laguna Beach.
Whereas we do not have a link to complete results or pictures of the event (a few pictures can be found by clicking here), Victoria Skimboards owner/operator Tex Haines surfed and received the following placements:
6th place in the Longboard division
2nd place in the Grand Masters division
Congratulations to Tex for a noteworthy performance and to everyone that braved the surf to participate in the contest along with Laguna Surf and Sport and the City of Laguna Beach for putting on the event.
7/23/09 - Aliso Beach CLOSED due to high surf advisory
It has been brought to our attention that Aliso Beach has been closed due to the large surf. A resident of the "Aliso Beach Circle" contacted us and stated that the police are turning people away from the parking lot and that the county lifeguards are getting people out of the water. Check out the action on the Aliso Camera by clicking here.
7/23/09 - Victoria Skimboards "reinvents" the Grommet
Victoria Skimboards is stoked as a new board has been reinvented! Part of Project Triangle (click here for more information on Project Triangle), the Grommet is the perfect board for the little shredder weighing in around 70 – 100 pounds. With a size of 44.5 inches in length and 17 inches in width, the Grommet has been molded after the professional model Victoria Skimboards product. Thin, light in weight, strong, and fantastically priced, the Grommet is here for you.
“The board feels awesome and that is no exaggeration” states Victoria Skimboards owner Tex Haines. “Being handmade right here in the USA, you are getting a technically unsurpassed board.” Check with your local Victoria Skimboards dealer for one today as these boards are flying out the door.
To see the Grommet board page, click here.
Victoria Skimboards is always a few moves ahead and still remains the best after 34 years.
7/21/09 - Save the WCS online petition is available
The County of Orange regulates all of the county beach activity. Park Rangers and the Permitting Department have a heavy hand in what happens on the County Beaches, Aliso Beach being one of them. In case you did not know, the County might attempt to push the Victoria Skimboards WCS to before or after the summer months basically killing the longest standing contest on the UST and Skimboarding circuit.
Victoria Skimboards has started a petition to "Save the WCS" and ask that you all read it, sign it, and add some constructive/positive comments to it. We will take this petition, a local hard copy that is signed by retailers, and any other support to the County Officials in hopes of keeping the WCS during the end of June or month of July. To read and sign the petition, click here.
Thank you for your support!

7/15/09 - Westbound Boarder article
About a month or so ago, Trigg Garner met up with Andrea Nowack, the
Los Angeles Editor for Westbound Boarder (a blog dedicated to sports for Women) to give a little skim instruction. A copy of her write up of the experience can be viewed by clicking here. She enjoyed the experience and hopefully you can pass on the fun of skimboarding to someone you know or to someone you do not know that is interested. Go out and ride!
7/07/09 - Information on the WCS contest t-shirt and the event's future
There are two things that should be known about the contest that many are not aware of.
First, the design for the contest t-shirt. The original sun logo for Victoria Skimboards was designed by Claire Shaver. This is important because Claire was the wife of Doc Shaver and mother to four of the Shavers that Tex’s family surfed with at San Onofre during Tex’s childhood. The sun logo has been refined countless times over the years by every artist who went through Victoria Skimboards but this year, Tex had the idea to contact Claire for a revised version for the contest. Her response was excitement as she had always wanted to do a revision of the original design.
The end result? On the 33rd annual Victoria Skimboards World Championship of Skimboarding you find the company revisiting its roots and featuring artwork on the front of the t-shirt by an original artist. Time sure does fly………
We hope you like the symbol of Victoria Skimboards; sun, waves, birds, and all. We are lucky to have had her and our thanks are extended to her for such great work. If you would like a little bit of history for your t-shirt collection we have plenty of size Large, Medium, and Small at the shop in the canyon for $10.00. Thanks again!
Second, the future of the event. During the set up of the second day of the contest, the county park ranger came up and warned us that next year the contest might not take place unless we were willing to move the event up to a pre summer date. Their reasoning was “chaos in the parking lot” with more cars circulating than there were cars already in the lot and the end result being “road rage.” The “road rage” would create a “bad situation” for everyone involved.
We discussed informing the public about the WCS in the weeks prior to the event so that they could make plans to visit other beaches besides Aliso during the WCS. One option was putting up signage at the park entrance on both sides of the highway so as to inform the public of the event at the beach for the weekend. That idea was frowned upon. The second option was publishing warnings in the local papers which were well received.
According to the park rangers, there are no NSSA surfing contests allowed on any public county beaches during the summer months (June through September). The Victoria WCS may be headed the same way which would be a shame and injustice to our international visitors, school age participants, and others that may no longer be able to participate in the event due to its timing.
We feel it will be necessary to launch a letter writing/newspaper editorial writing campaign to press the Orange County Permits employees to let us continue the event in late June or early July. This timing works best as it takes advantage of the lingering NW wind swell that comes earlier in the summer as opposed to waiting until later in the summer when the only swells that are likely are infrequent south swells.
We will start a petition as soon as possible so please check the Victoria Skimboards website frequently. All parents and participants who have skills in writing or organizing a major push to have skimboarding recognized by Laguna and the County of Orange are encouraged to help. Please write your local government agency, call your contacts in the local and county governments and help us make our case.
Skimboarding is our local natural resource, much as skiers are the lifeblood of June Mountain. We bring tourism, hotel occupancy, and restaurant use to the city of Laguna Beach. We are a town full of skimboard enthusiasts so let’s pull together to make sure the WCS happens in 2010.
Thirty three (33) years of continuous contests is one heck of a long run for any event. Please don’t let the county overreact to a few of the general public who are inconvenienced for one weekend of the year. Laguna Beach is the worldwide Mecca for this sport. This is where it has been revolutionized and grown into a wonderful new sport. It should be protected from the vagaries of our government trying to please a very small group of people who don’t want anyone else using Aliso. We are all beach goers and we all deserve an equal access to the beach. The vast majority of the parking lot is there for the contest but there is plenty of room for the rest of the beach goers to use the water.
It would be a shame to lose the “family” event so please pull together and help stop the negative momentum that could pull the Victoria Skimboards WCS under the water never to return.

4/9/09 – Matthieu Thibaud's O-1 VISA application is passed
Victoria Skimboards is happy to announce that Matthieu Thibaud is now the proud owner of an O-1 VISA and legal in the United States for another 3 years. With a long process behind us, we would like to thank Leibl & Kirkwood Attorney firm, Annie Secrest, and all of the other people that helped Matthieu achieve his goal.
On another note, this could be a positive step forward for skimboarding as the United States Federal Government recognizes skimboarding as a legitimate sport. The O-1 VISA is an athlete VISA given to the likes of professional basketball players, snowboarders, and other highly recognized athletes. With Matthieu's acceptance it brings us a step closer to recognition in the eyes of those around us as a valid sport and not just a hobby.
4/5/09 – Economic Times
Victoria Skimboards recognizes the trouble times that our domestic economy and even global economy are experiencing. We experience it every day and rather than shun our responsibility to the skimboarding community, we have come up with a solution. As board prices from our competitors have risen without board improvements being made, Victoria Skimbaords offers SKIMBOARD RENTALS.
What better time than now to allow you the skimboarder the chance to try it before you buy it. There are so many different boards on the market that we are doing our best to allow you to try exactly what you want and see if it performs the way you want before going out and spending over $300. This is our way of saying, we have got you covered during these trying times. So come on down to our retail outlet at 2955 Laguna Canyon Rd. #1 in Laguna Beach CA and we will get you out and riding.

11/11/08 Victoria Skimboards doing its part
There’s been a lot of talk in the various board sport industries lately about going green. Also, some heavy debates about damaging the Earth with our sports. Now, Victoria Skimboards are realists when it comes to the environment: we know that building our boards out of the finest woods and foam cores aren’t helping the planet any. BUT, we do a whole lot to make up for it. For starters, our operation is completely localized: all facets of our boards are produced within 30 miles of our main office minimizing the amount of fuel it takes to transport the raw and finished materials. We use the most environmentally friendly glues and sealants possible without affecting the integrity of our boards. We also minimize packaging to lessen the landfill burden and recycle materials wherever possible. For example, our Acetone Still allows us to completely recycle and reuse the solvent instead of disposing the harmful chemical back into the Earth.
Oh, there is one more thing we do at Victoria, we only partner with vendors and suppliers that hold the same values as us. Check out this press release at Transworld on Aosa, one of our primary printing and graphics firms.

10/22/08 The Laguna Beach Lifeguards need our help
A direct call from Tex Haines -
Dear Skimboarders,
Tonight is a great opportunity to show your support for the lifeguards. I am asking any and all skimboarders to consider showing up for a half an hour (see message below) to just be there in support of the lifeguard department. The current Lifeguard Headquarters is ridiculously small, located on a sewer pump station and they need more space. One very nearby hotel owner has formed a fake “locals-are-concerned-about-the-view-loss” group to object to the expansion. The amount of view loss is miniscule especially considering the armpit nature of that portion of Main Beach, combining bathrooms, sewer pump station, hotel looming overhead, stairways and Lifeguard Headquarters. So please, we urge you to be there in support of the local Laguna Beach Lifeguards. Please wear your favorite skimboarding hat and a white T and be there. Tell everyone you can and thanks!
Tex Haines (owner Victoria Skimboards)
Additional Information:
Meeting Location: Laguna Beach City Council Chambers (City Hall)
Meeting Date: October 22, 2008
Meeting Time: 6:30pm
Meeting information: A Planning Commission session only but the Lifeguards need our support. If we show our backing of our local lifeguards a change can be made. The commission needs to know we're there (nothing needs to be said as showing up in support of the lifeguards is support enough).
10/16/08 UST results are in and Victoria takes 3 of top 4
The United Skimboarding Tour year 2008 is complete and Victoria Skimboards riders take home 3 of the top 4 spots. With Bill Bryan in 1st, Brandon Rothe in 3rd, and Morgan Just in 4th, our hats go off to those warriors as they battled through flight delays, layovers, illness, and injury to still compete at the highest of levels.
Believe us when we say it is not all about how you skim on any given day. The complete package for a skimboarder is how you plan, how you train, your knowledge of the breaks, and how you skim; all of which the Victoria Skimboards riders possess. Congratulations to the team on an impressive finish in year 2008.
9/25/08 Bill Bryan to take home the UST crown

32nd Annual Victoria World Championships of Skimboarding
Stop No. 5 of 8 on the 2008 UST World Tour
Aliso Beach, Laguna Beach, California
July 26-27, 2008
Laguna Beach, California (Thursday, July 03, 2008) – With the Victoria World Championships of Skimboarding (WCS) fast approaching, the attention of the UST’s top pros is focused on stopping two men – Current World No. 1 Bill Bryan (USA) and World No. 2 Morgan Just (USA).
Both Victoria Team Riders have dominated the 2008 UST season, clinching all three events held thus far. The first two contests going to Bryan with the most recent event going to Just.
Bryan heads into the Victoria World Championships an event favorite having won the event 14 times – in 1991, 1993, 1994, 1995, 1997, 1998, 1999, 2000, 2001, 2003, 2004, 2005, 2006 and 2007. He finished runner-up to George Bryan and Mike Stanaland in 1996 and 2002 respectively. Without a doubt he has his sights set on a 15th World title.
The Victoria World Championships of Skimboaridng is the fifth event of 8 on the UST World Tour. The current leg of the tour is taking place on the East Coast of the United States, with the fourth stop scheduled for July 12th and 13th in North Carolina. The UST riders will have close to two weeks to prepare for the Victoria WCS as the tour shifts to the West Coast on the waters of Laguna Beach.
The Victoria WCS will be streamed LIVE on www.victoriaskimboards.com when competition runs. If you can’t make it to the beach and watch the action live, catch the event online as it happens.
The weekend’s festivities will conclude on Sunday July 27th with an after party, which includes the awards ceremony, live music and a video premier which will be held @ Seven Degrees in Laguna Beach. Doors open at 7pm with tons of free gear to be given away. Check back in the coming weeks leading up to the weekend for more info…

Cabo Clasico 2008 was held at Lover’s Beach in Cabo San Lucas for the second straight year. The waves were some of the biggest contest waves we have seen in a while and the contest format changed things up a little for the Pros and the AMs. In an attempt to keep 4 man heats off the books, there were many Man on Man heats which was good for the judges, competitors, and spectators alike. Overall a great contest! See you there next year.
5/1/08 LRG BOARDS
The LRG boards are in the stores and the reception has been fantastic. Shops cannot keep this limited edition print on the shelves and are asking for more but Victoria Skimboards is sticking to its guns of a limited release. Keep your eyes peeled to the future as there might be other projects between Victoria Skimboards and LRG in the works.
4/30/08 PR MACHINE
Victoria Skimboards is proud of the hard work that they put into each product that bears the Victoria Skimboards name. But what does it matter to skimboarding if the word does not make it to the streets and into the hands of people that do not know anything about skimboarding? Not a whole lot. Well, we are changing this by blasting out our news in an efficient manner and spreading the “gospel” of skimboarding. “Focused efforts are going to be the most effective means of getting skimboarding to the masses and accepted even revered/looked up to like surfing” stated Trigg Garner, General Manager for Victoria Skimboards. We all want the best for skimboarding and Victoria Skimboards is doing its part to make it happen. Are you?
4/29/08 NEW ART
Gone are the days of simplistic lines on your Skimboard. Enter the next generation of art with Victoria Skimboards leading the charge. “We recently released new artwork to our retailers and the response has been fantastic” stated Nick Aleandro, East Coast Sales Manager for Victoria Skimboards. With excitement all around the product, look for art boards to be popping up on every beach across the United States and abroad.
4/28/08- Nick Hernandez
Funky, fresh, smooth – all words that can be used to describe Nick Hernandez in the water but not everyone knows that it can be used to describe him on the music stage. Nick Hernandez, long time singer/songwriter for Common Sense has recently dropped his own CD titled “Happy Ending.” A mix of funk, jazz, and rock with a positive lyrical message, Nick brings you 12 songs of pure pleasure. Look for yours in a local music outlet near you.
4/24/08- Morgan Just
Barcelona was host to a skim competition this month and Victoria Skimboards team rider Morgan Just made a showing. Actually he made much more of a showing by winning the contest and crushing the competition. Taking his aggressive style straight to the European market, Morgan turned some heads with his fluid style of riding and “down home” personality. What is next for this young buck? He is off to Portugal with the Victoria Skimboards distributor to tour the shops, sign autographs, run some clinics, and enjoy the sun. Congratulations to Morgan on the beginnings of a successful trip!
4/04/08 – Bill Bryan & Morgan Just Pro Models
The Bill Bryan & Morgan Just Pro Model Skimboards have hit the ground running. With sales of both of these boards booming, look on your local beach and you are bound to see either the screaming fire hydrant or mountain scenery crushing the surf. If you have not seen either of these boards then leave your cave and either hit the beach or go to http://www.victoriaskimboards.com/boards/bill_bryan_pro_model.html or http://www.victoriaskimboards.com/boards/morgan_just_pro_model.html for your fix.
